The south of the Écrins massif offers hikers long, wild valleys, a multitude of lost passes and many accessible peaks almost reaching 3000m in altitude. The atmosphere is alternately bucolic at the bottom of the valley and very mineral near the peaks. There are lots of lakes, and from every summit or pass there is an astonishing panorama: peaks and glaciers to the north, Queyras, Italy, Mercantour and Provence to the south. As usual, our tour gives pride of place to off-the-beaten-track itineraries. In the heart of the Ecrins National Park, we’ll have plenty of time to discover its exceptional flora and fauna, as well as some of its great heritage sites. We’ll be spending two nights in Dormillouse, a small, timeless village, inaccessible by car and the only inhabited hamlet in the heart of the park.
